Beijing hosts inauguration meeting for 2015 China tobacco control

Cui stressed that tobacco control implementation work still faces many problems and challenges. All parties should step up efforts in carrying out the notice from the two general offices, strengthen organizational leadership and interdepartmental cooperation, and expand smoke-free offices to create a smoke-free environment. Relevant personnel should actively promote tobacco control legislation and law enforcement, work with the State Council's Legislative Affairs Office in amending and improving the Regulations on Smoking Control in Public Places, and facilitate early release of the regulations. Extensive health education and social mobilization should be carried out. The media and the public should be brought in to actively create a supportive environment for tobacco control. Supervision and evaluation should be enhanced, and supervision by society and public opinions should be implemented to improve tobacco control capacity.

During the meeting, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology; General Administration of Press and Publication, Radio, Film and Television; and the health and family planning commissions from Beijing and Hubei shared experiences in carrying out the notice from the two general offices and building a smoke-free government. A report on 2014 China tobacco control mass communication activity development was made at the meeting.
