Jin Xiaotao, a vice-minister with the National Health and Family Planning Commission, took part in an opening ceremony for the 47th session of the Codex Committee on Food Additives, in Shaanxi province, on March 23, after which he took a closer look at food safety standards and risk monitoring as well as public health information and development.

Jin also enquired about local team building and the salary system reform at medical institutes and heard reports from the provincial health and family planning commission, health supervision dept and disease control center, which he visited. He commented favorably on Shaanxi's work and encouraged everyone to solve problems that have accumulated over the years and asked everyone to continue reforms and innovation.

He went on to propose that they increase planning and training, and coordination to ensure scientific, safe work and called for improved food safety and medical services through information development.

Accompanying Jin were NHFPC's Food Safety Standards Dept, Risk Surveillance and Assessment Dept, and other department officials.
