Ma Xiaowei meets with WHO official
Ma Xiaowei, vice-minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commssion (NHFPC) met with Shin Young-soo, regional director for the World Health Organization Western Pacific Regional Office in Beijing on June 3.
“China has a large population, which leads to unbalanced development in some regions. Local governments have formed their own experiences during the healthcare reform,” Ma said, adding that the central government will summarize local experiences to push forward China’s healthcare reform. Ma also expressed gratitude to WHO for cooperating with China regarding MERS patients.
Shin Young-soo said that WHO is willing to support China’s healthcare reform. He explained the situation of MERS in South Korea, and praised China’s preventive measures.
Both sides reached a consensus in strengthening the cooperation on hepatitis, non-infectious diseases and the health sector.
