Women, children health-care campaign opens in Xinjiang

A campaign advocating women and children's health kicked off in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, on Aug 7.

Wang Guoqiang, vice minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, addressed launch ceremony attendees on Aug 7 in Xinjiang.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Wang Guoqiang, vice minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC), spoke highly of the progress achieved by Xinjiang over the past few years.

He called for institutional restructuring and transformation of the functions at local health institutions.

Wang said that the resources of health and family planning should be integrated, achieving the result of "one plus one is greater than two".

At the ceremony, the Center for Maternal and Child Health under the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention donated health education materials, including popular science books and CDs to the local health organization.

China Cross Society of China donated 300,000 yuan ($45,183) to the relief fund for a maternal and child care service center in Yili prefecture.

Over 200 representatives, including scholars, professors, and media staff, were present at the ceremony.
