Closer cooperation between China, US in drug sector
Deputy head of China's health watchdog organization met with the visiting head of the US pharmaceutical association on Sept 26 in Beijing to exchange ideas about China's reform of the medical and health sector and how to promote the medical industry in both countries.
Over the meeting, Liu Qian, deputy head of the National Health and Family Planning Commission briefly described the development and achievements of China's medical and health sector to Steve Ubl, president of Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA).
Liu also touched upon China's medical insurance system and drug procurement procedures.
He said the Chinese government has been working to set up a strict and transparent supervision mechanism, which offers safe, accessible, and affordable drugs to the public.
He also noted that the mechanism should support a sound business environment to guarantee healthy, orderly, and innovative industrial development.
Steve Ubl echoed Liu as he spoke highly of the achievements made by China's medical and health sector over the past few years.
Steve said that PhRMA will continue to support China's relevant reforms and expressed his wish to forge a closer relationship with Chinese pharmaceutical enterprises and boost mutual communication.
Formed in 1958, PhRMA represents America's biopharmaceutical research companies and helps promote smart public policy that supports medical research to address patient needs, reads its website.
PhRMA boasts 12 offices across the US as well as Tokyo, Japan, and Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
