Deputy head of NHFPC visits US
The deputy head of China's national health watchdog body visited health departments in the United States and wrapped up her nine-day overseas visit on Sept 30.
China’s health delegation led by Cui Li, vice-minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, holds a bilateral talk with the US Department of Health and Human Services.
During her stay in the US, Cui Li, vice-minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC), conducted a bilateral talk with Jimmy Kolker, assistant secretary for global affairs at the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
During the talk, both sides covered issues of common concern, including the health cooperation between China and the US, global health, construction of facilities for disease control and prevention in Africa, high-level people-to-people and cultural exchanges consultation between China and the US, and a strategic and economic dialogue.
Cui also met with the special representative of the State Department's Office of Global Health Diplomacy Deborah L. Birx. As an ambassador-at-large, Birx is a world-renowned medical expert and leader in the field of HIV/AIDS. Her three-decades-long career has focused on HIV/AIDS immunology, vaccine research, and global health.
While visiting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Emory Global Health Institute, the delegation exchanged ideas with relevant personnel on China-US-Africa trilateral public health cooperation issues.
