China holds seminar on healthy ageing
An international seminar on healthy ageing in developing countries was held in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, from Oct 17 to 19.
Wang Pei’an, deputy head of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, speaks at the opening ceremony of 2016 International Seminar for South South Cooperation on Healthy Ageing in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, on Oct 17.
Wang Pei'an, deputy head of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, addressed the opening ceremony of the 2016 International Seminar for South South Cooperation on Healthy Ageing.
"Ageing of the population is one of the major social issues facing the world," Wang said. "Integrating medical and health services with everyday life services for the elderly is a positive and long-term solution."
The Chinese government pays great attention to the health of the elderly and regards it as part of the Healthy China strategy, which was initiated by China's top leadership.
Under the strategy, China is deepening reforms of the medical and health sector, and integrating medical services with elderly care, according to Wang.
At the ceremony, Wang made a five-point proposal to advance the healthy ageing in developing countries, including scientific analysis, scientific research, involvement of the whole society, active participation by the elderly, and a pilot program.
Over fifty representatives, including Joe Thomas, executive Director of the Partners in Population and Development, joined the seminar.
