China’s experience on health promotion
National health literacy is an important aspect of the healthy city. The recent years has witnessed the rapid development of China's health literacy.
A parallel session on Nov 23 during 9th Global Conference on Health Promotion themed "Promoting Health Literacy" triggered the discussion on China's experience in health literacy promotion.
Chinese experts and government officials at the scene shared their experience on health promotion ranging from maternal and child, lifestyle, to media communication and other fields.
China as a developing country with largest population in the world, its government attaches great importance to disease control.
Over the years Chinese government always adheres to the disease prevention, and combination of prevention and control, taking the leading role of government and scientific method, said Yu Jingjin, the director of Bureau of Disease Prevention and Control of National Health and Family Planning Commission.
Therefore, some remarkable achievement has been made with low investment. At present, the country has accumulated a total of more than 200 healthy cities and 600 healthy towns, started the pilot work of healthy cities last month, according to Yu.
Deputy director of Department of Maternal and Child Health Song Li introduced China's experience in the practice of maternal and child health literacy.
After years of efforts, China developed a series of supporting regulations in all aspects of supervision and inspection so that the maternal and child health services in China has formed distinctive Chinese features, and also a sound maternal and child health services system.
At the end of 2015, the number of maternal and child health care institutions in the country has reached 3,078.
Chinese Health Education Centre Director Li Changning said on the forum that it is very important to monitor the health literacy.
In order to do a good job in monitoring, Chinese Health Education Centre conducted a series of studies on health literacy, established evaluation system of health literacy among Chinese residents, and developed standard questionnaire and test base.
Under the guidance of national health lifestyle, Deputy Director of Centre for Disease Prevention and Control Liang Xiaofeng said that the next ten years will see China to carry out the "three less and three health" working outline, which means less salt, less oil, less sugar, and healthy oral cavity, healthy weight, healthy bones.
The salt reduction project in Shandong province has achieved great success, said Zuo Yi, deputy director of Health and Family Planning Commission of Shandong Province.
The project follows the concept of health into all policies and tried to mobilize multi sectoral participation in all areas of salt overuse, he said.
