Better technology, better health
New technologies can help to promote health management in society, according to experts at the Ninth Global Conference on Health Promotion in Shanghai on Nov 24.
The South Asian island nation of the Maldives is paying particular attention on encouraging people to maintain a health balance.
Hussain Rasheed, the country's health minister, said that a medical examination system has been introduced to allow residents to enjoy a free body check every year. The body check data will be sent to family doctors so as to better advise on medical issues.
The Maldives also provides body check service to students aged between one and seven to maintain a record of students' health conditions.
Remote medical service facilities are also available on 39 islands in the archipelago.
Zee Yoong Kang, Singapore chief executive officer of Health Promotion Board of Ministry of Health, believes a well-established education system can help people to develop a good health concept. Singapore provides free, but compulsory, education services to students between seven and 16 years old.
Health information is an important course for students.
The Singapore government encourages residents to use electronic devices to receive more health information. A national website has been developed by the national government to provide reliable health information to all.
Jiang Lixin, Health Literacy Working Group of the WHO Global Coordination Mechanism on NCDs, said that population density in some areas of China is low, which is a big challenge for governments to effectively increase people's knowledge on health management.
"Information technology brings many changes for us. We can distribute health information through videos, messages and mobile apps," Jiang said.
"More training has been provided to grass-roots medical service providers so they can provide better solutions to residents," Jaing said.
China has also developed remote health education and diagnosis platforms to promote medical information sharing.
"We believe new technologies can help spread health knowledge and provide better health services to residents," Jiang said.
