Medical teams from the local hospitals and clinics were sent for rescue in Jiuzhaigou county in Southwest China's Sichuan province on August 9, 2017, after a 7.0-magnitude quake hit the area.

Medical staffs from the local county-level hospitals and health clinics in towns and townships are dispatched to help the injured.

Medical and relief teams from the West China Hospital, Sichuan University and the Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital have also been sent to the area for treatment.

Li Bin, minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC), demanded for a rapid rescue and treatment to reduce more casualties.

The national health emergency response team and medical, preventive and psychological teams of the national level from Yunnan, Chongqing and Shaanxi are always ready to help when required.

A magnitude-7.0 earthquake struck Jiuzhaigou county in Sichuan province at 9:19 pm on August 8, at least five people were dead and dozens injured, Xinhua News Agency reported.

All of the victims who died were reported to be tourists.

The epicenter was at a depth of 20 kilometers in Jiuzhaigou, the Aba Tibetan and Qiang autonomous prefecture. 

Jiuzhaigou national park is in the area and is a popular tourist spot known for mesmerizing waterfalls and karst formations.
