Wang Pei'an, vice-minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, called for better implementation of the health poverty alleviation project during a field trip.
During his four day inspection trip to the poor area of Nujiang Prefecture, Southwest China's Yunnan province, starting from August 8, Wang visited ten medical and health institutions of various levels in the region.
He listened to work reports and exchanged views and ideas with local health personnel.
The health poverty alleviation project is part of a national strategy to ensure that all people living below the poverty line in China rise above it by 2020.
Wang also went to poor households to learn about the implementation of health poverty alleviation.
He spoke highly of the achievements of health sectors, but warned of tougher conditions ahead.
He demanded that health personnel shoulder more responsibility and have more sense of mission in fulfilling their task.
