Wang Hesheng, vice-minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, attended the 28th Regional Congress of the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, on Nov 26.
Wang delivered a speech at the congress. He noted that the Chinese government has always carefully monitored blood safety and regards it as an important part of building a healthy China.
“To ensure blood safety, we have included it in medical and healthcare reform. China has been making efforts to improve the law and regulations of blood management,” he said, adding that China has been promoting voluntary blood donation to benefit more people.
The country has upgraded the system to improve blood safety and tightened the clinical blood management system to ensure reasonable use of blood.
According to the World Health Organization’s report on blood safety and supply for 2016, China’s blood safety ranks among the best in the world.
Wang said that China is willing to cooperate with other countries in medical and health sectors including blood safety. China will focus on the Belt and Road Initiative, taking strengthened and targeted measures to participate in global health promotion.

From Nov 26 to 27 Wang also inspected the Guangzhou blood center, Guangdong General Hospital and First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University to learn about their medical and healthcare reform and medical service improvements.
