Deputy head of NHC calls for more support to families in need
The selection campaign of the 2nd "National Happy Families" is launched.
The deputy head of China's top health authorities urged more help and support to poverty-stricken families at an activity on May 13, two days ahead of the International Day of Families, in Beijing.
Cui Li, vice-minister of the National Health Commission (NHC), said that family development policy benefits babies, adolescents, women and children, elderly and all other family members.

China will continue supporting family child care and in-home services for the elderly, she said, adding that families in rural and urban areas should be comprehensively improved.
Babatunde Ahonsi, representative of the UN Population Fund to China, joined the event.
At the activity, the selection campaign of the 2nd "National Happy Families" was initiated. China Population Welfare Foundation appointed new goodwill ambassadors at the activity.
Over 300 health officials, family representatives, and media personnel attended the event.
A special program to help children with cleft lip and palate is held.
