Pilots for community-level hospital construction commence

A pilot program on community-level hospitals construction started after a kick-off meeting held on Apr 25 in Nanjing, East China's Jiangsu province. Wang Hesheng, vice-minister of the National Health Commission (NHC) addressed the meeting.
The construction of community-level hospitals should follow problem and goal orientations and be committed to providing the public with fair, accessible and quality basic health services, according to the meeting.
Community-level hospitals should be strengthened to promote the capability of grassroots medical services as well as the construction of tiered diagnosis and treatment institution, the meeting noted.
In addition, the pilot program needs to be implemented stably, taking targeted and coordinated measures to improve basic medical services and promote county-level as well as urban hospital alliances. The grassroots medical institutions should stick on their function orientation and to give same priority to diseases prevention and control.
Representatives from 20 pilot health and relevant departments at provincial, municipal or district level attended the meeting and visited the community hospital of Tiexinqiao, Yuhuatai district, Nanjing.
