China is willing to share good practices on malaria elimination with other countries to reduce the disease and build a healthy Silk Road, according to an official of China’s top health authority.
Artemisinin is one of China’s contributions to global malaria elimination, said Li Bin, vice-minister of the National Health Commission(NHC), at the third Annual Global Forum of Malaria-Eliminating Countries held on June 18 in Wuxi, East China’s Jiangsu province.
Organized by the NHC and the World Health Organization, the meeting held in China is crucial for the country to meet its goal of eradicating malaria in 2020, said Li, adding that it is also a platform where various nations can exchange and learn from each other in the area.
Gauden Galea, WHO Representative in China, and Pedro L. Alonso, leader of the WHO Global Malaria Programme, as well as representatives of 20 countries which plan to eliminate malaria by 2020, attended the forum.
