Ma Xiaowei, minister of the National Health Commission (NHC), met with Li Hong, the recipient of the 47th Florence Nightingale Medal, in Beijing on Sept 2.

Li Hong, chief nurse of the Fujian Provincial Hospital, shared her long-term clinical experience and how she provides patients with wholehearted medical services, which showed the noble spirit of medical workers in the new era.

Ma fully affirmed China’s remarkable achievements in nursing work over recent years and the contribution that healthcare workers have made in safeguarding the people's health and life.

He noted that health administrative agencies and medical institutes should take effective measures to increase their motivation. He said he hopes that Li will play an exemplary role, adhere to the people-oriented concept and the essence of the Florence Nightingale spirit and encourage all the nursing staff to contribute more to the Healthy China Action Plan and people’s well-being.

Wang Hesheng, vice-minister of the NHC, and Wang Haijing, vice-president of the Red Cross Society of China, attended the symposium.
