NHC vice-minister attends UN high-level meeting on universal health coverage

Wang Hesheng, vice-minister of China’s National Health Commission (NHC), led a delegation to a United Nation General Assembly high-level meeting in New York City from Sept 22 to 30.

The 74th United Nations General Assembly high-level meeting on universal health coverage was held on Sept 23 in New York City.

Wang introduced the Healthy China Action Plan and China’s progress in medical reform. He said that China’s major actions, including medical team assistance, the construction of “healthy Silk Road”, and China-Africa Healthy Action, have provided strong support for universal health coverage and the Agenda for Sustainable Development.

During the meeting, Wang held talks with health officials from different countries and visited US medical institutions.

Wang also visited Dominica, where he met with the Dominican prime minister, acting health minister and secretary of state and visited local Chinese medical teams and the China-Dominica Friendship Hospital.
