NHC vice-minister attends BRICS Health Ministers Meeting in Brazil

Wang Jianjun, member of the Leading Party Members' Group of the National Health Commission (NHC) and president of the China National Committee on Ageing, led a delegation to the BRICS Health Ministers Meeting in Brazil from Oct 23 to 31.

The 9th BRICS Health Ministers Meeting was held on Oct 25 in Curitiba. Wang spoke at the meeting, noting that the BRICS health cooperation has seen deepened consensus and improved mechanisms in the past eight years, and also enjoys broad prospects.

For the promotion of fair and accessible healthcare benefits, China is willing to continuously further mutual understanding and collaboration with BRICS countries, strengthen policy communication and information sharing, enhance innovation and co-development and join global governance, said Wang.

Participant countries reached broad agreement in maternal and child health, drug and vaccine accessibility, tuberculosis prevention and control as well as universal healthcare coverage. The meeting adopted a joint declaration.

Wang also visited Barbados and met with the Barbadian health minister. An agreement concerning China's medical assistance to Barbados from 2019 to 2021 was signed by the Barbadian health minister and China's ambassador to Barbados. Wang visited Chinese medical assistance teams in Barbados and locals hospitals.
