March 6: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On March 5, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 143 new cases of confirmed infections, 102 new cases of suspected infections, and 30 deaths (29 in Hubei province and 1 in Hainan province). 1,681 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 5,457 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 215.

As of 24:00 on March 5, the National Health Commission had received 80,552 reports of confirmed cases and 3,042 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 53,726 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 23,784 confirmed cases (including 5,737 in serious condition) and 482 suspected cases. So far, 670,854 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 29,896 are now under medical observation.

On March 5, Hubei reported 126 new cases of confirmed infections (all in Wuhan), 43 new cases of suspected infections (including 42 in Wuhan), and 29 deaths (including 23 in Wuhan). 1,487 patients were released from hospital after being cured, including 1,038 in Wuhan.

As of 24:00 on March 5, Hubei had reported 67,592 cases of confirmed infections (including 49,797 in Wuhan) and 2,931 deaths (including 2,328 in Wuhan). In all, 41,966 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital, including 27,354 in Wuhan. There still remained 22,695 confirmed cases (including 20,115 in Wuhan), with 5,588 in serious condition (including 5,208 in Wuhan), and 285 suspected cases (including 232 in Wuhan).

On March 5, the Chinese mainland reported 16 new imported confirmed cases from overseas (11 in Gansu province, 4 in Beijing municipality, and 1 in Shanghai municipality). As of 24:00 on March 5, the Chinese mainland had reported 36 imported confirmed cases from overseas.

As of 24:00 on March 5, 158 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 104 in Hong Kong (2 had been dead and 46 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 10 in Macao (9 had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 44 in Taiwan (1 had been dead and 12 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
