May 23: Daily briefing on novel coronavirus cases in China

On May 22, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported no new cases of confirmed infections, 2 new cases of suspected infections (1 imported case in Shanghai municipality and 1 indigenous case in Jilin province), and no deaths. 3 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 252 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. The number of serious cases increased by 1.

As of 24:00 on May 22, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps had reported 1,711 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 1,670 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 41 confirmed cases (including 2 in serious condition) and 5 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on May 22, the National Health Commission had received reports of 82,971 confirmed cases and 4,634 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and in all 78,258 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 79 confirmed cases (including 9 in serious condition) and 6 suspected cases. So far, 741,696 people have been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 5,085 are now under medical observation.

On May 22, 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland as well as the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps reported 28 new asymptomatic cases (including 2 imported cases). 23 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 2 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on May 22, 370 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 26 imported cases).

As of 24:00 on May 22, 1,551 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 1,065 in Hong Kong (4 had been dead and 1,029 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 45 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 441 in Taiwan (7 had been dead and 408 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
