ACCRA -- Ghana's deputy minister for health Bernard Okoe Boye has applauded the role played by China in bolstering the country's fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking with Xinhua, Okoe Boye said that the drastic reduction in Ghana's COVID-19 active cases could be partly attributed to the medical support and research information-sharing from China.

He stressed the importance of the medical supplies from the Chinese government as well as lessons drawn from China's experience and success in curbing the spread of the virus that has provided Ghana with valuable lessons on how to fight and win against the pandemic.

"Our Chinese friends have been supportive. They've supported us when it comes to PPEs, they've even supported us when it comes to information sharing," said he.

The minister expressed optimism that the West African country could eliminate the virus entirely if it stayed the present course.

The number of Ghana's confirmed COVID-19 cases stood at 45,655 on Thursday morning, with 564 active cases and 294 deaths.
