On Jan 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 109 new cases of confirmed infections (16 imported cases, 4 in Shanghai municipality, 3 in Shaanxi province, 2 in Zhejiang province, 2 in Hunan province, 1 in Beijing municipality, 1 in Tianjin municipality, 1 in Fujian province, 1 in Guangdong province and 1 in Sichuan province; 93 indigenous cases, 54 in Hebei province, 30 in Jilin province, 7 in Heilongjiang province and 2 in Beijing), 2 new cases of suspected infections (both were imported cases in Shanghai), and no deaths. 13 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 1,519 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases increased by 1.

As of 24:00 on Jan 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 4,518 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 4,234 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 284 confirmed cases (including 2 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases.

As of 24:00 on Jan 17, the National Health Commission had received reports of 88,336 confirmed cases and 4,635 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 82,400 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 1,301 confirmed cases (including 43 cases in serious condition) and 3 suspected cases. 940,068 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 34,231 were still under medical observation.

On Jan 17, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 115 new asymptomatic cases (including 11 imported cases). 12 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (all were imported cases) and 61 asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases (including 6 imported cases). As of 24:00 on Jan 17, 788 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 254 imported cases). 

As of 24:00 on Jan 17, 10,458 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 9,557 in Hong Kong (162 had died and 8,758 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 46 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 855 in Taiwan (7 had died and 755 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
