On May 9, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 11 new cases of confirmed infections (all were imported cases, 4 in Shanghai municipality, 2 in Guangdong province, 2 in Shaanxi province, 1 in Zhejiang province, 1 in Sichuan province and 1 in Yunnan province), no new cases of suspected infections, and no deaths. 13 patients were released from hospital after being cured. 331 people who had had close contact with infected patients were freed from medical observation. Serious cases decreased by 1.

As of 24:00 on May 9, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland had reported 5,771 cases of imported confirmed infections and no deaths. In all, 5,497 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 274 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case.

As of 24:00 on May 9, the National Health Commission had received reports of 90,769 confirmed cases and 4,636 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland, and in all 85,835 patients had been cured and discharged from hospital. There still remained 298 confirmed cases (no cases in serious condition) and 1 suspected case. 1,012,040 people had been identified as having had close contact with infected patients. 5,973 were still under medical observation.

On May 9, 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps on the Chinese mainland reported 18 new asymptomatic cases (all were imported cases). 7 asymptomatic cases were freed from medical observation (including 6 imported cases) and no asymptomatic cases became confirmed cases. As of 24:00 on May 9, 319 asymptomatic cases were still under medical observation (including 313 imported cases). 

As of 24:00 on May 9, 13,040 confirmed infections had been reported in the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan province: 11,807 in Hong Kong (210 had died and 11,493 had been cured and discharged from hospital), 49 in Macao (all had been cured and discharged from hospital) and 1,184 in Taiwan (12 had died and 1,089 had been cured and discharged from hospital).
