Both sides of Beijing's Tian'anmen Square have been decorated with flowers — more than 9,600 square meters — after the big celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China on July 1.
According to the Beijing Gardening and Greening Bureau, teams of workers spent 10 and a half hours after the ceremony to complete the decorations.
Tens of thousands of seats for audience had been placed in the square. To ensure the ability of the public to see the flowers on July 2, the team even rehearsed the seat removal and flower decoration process before the real action on that day.
The bureau said that around 430,000 plants were used in the decorating.
In addition to the square, to create a festive atmosphere, Beijing's Chang'an Avenue, a major street adjacent to the square, had been decorated with 10 themed flower terraces commemorating the history and modern development of the nation. Those have attracted many visitors.
