Over 2b COVID-19 vaccine doses given in mainland
Chinese mainland had administered more than 2 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses as of Thursday, with nearly 890 million people fully vaccinated, the National Health Commission said on Friday.
Mi Feng, spokesman for the commission, said a series of local outbreaks emerging since late July have been brought under control. Daily counts of locally transmitted infections in the country have been declining for 11 straight days since Aug 16.
He added that as of Thursday, the number of medium-to-high risk areas in Chinese mainland dropped to 38. Twenty-eight provincial-level regions have now been cleared of medium-to-high risk areas.
