NHC takes prompt measures in response to earthquake in Sichuan
The National Health Commission (NHC) activated an immediate emergency response after a 6.0-magnitude earthquake jolted Luxian county in Luzhou, Southwest China's Sichuan province, on Sept 16.
NHC Minister Ma Xiaowei urged swift measures to obtain information on casualties and guide local health authorities in post-disaster treatment, psychological assistance and epidemic prevention.
Medical groups led by NHC officials have been dispatched to Sichuan for emergency rescue efforts.
A national medical team organized by the Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital was sent to the earthquake-stricken region on the morning of Sept 16 to help with local health emergency response.
Seven medical experts from the departments of intensive care, neurosurgery, osteology, general surgery and psychology were dispatched from the West China Hospital of Sichuan University to assist treatment of the wounded.
Four public health experts respectively specializing in infectious disease prevention, drinking water sanitation, vector control, and environmental disinfection from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention have reached out to the disaster-hit area to guide post-disaster public health risk assessment, sanitation and epidemic prevention.
Meanwhile, a national medical team in Chongqing municipality has been asked to prepare for emergency rescue and will be sent to the region as needed.
At present, all of the injured are in stable condition and being treated.
