Chinese delegation attends 154th session of WHO Executive Board
The 154th session of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO) was held from Jan 22 to 27 in Geneva, Switzerland.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus delivered a speech at the event, reviewing the organization's achievements in promoting health and well-being, advancing health equity, and enhancing health emergency response capabilities in 2023. He also said that the WHO is willing to work together with member states and partners to continue promoting the building of a healthier, safer, and fairer world.
The session deliberated on 30 issues, including the report of the WHO director-general, universal health coverage, the WHO’s 14th General Programme of Work, planning and budget, as well as its healthcare workforce. Nearly 30 resolutions and decisions were discussed and approved, covering such topics as antimicrobial drug resistance and health promotion.
The Chinese delegation took an active part in the discussion, introduced China’s commitment in relevant fields, and commended the WHO's efforts in coordinating a global response to public health emergencies and advancing universal health coverage. It also called on the WHO to leverage its strengths to promote global health development and security, and contribute to the building of a global community of health for all.
Over 800 delegates from WHO member states, relevant international organizations, and non-governmental organizations attended the session.
The Chinese delegation included representatives from the National Health Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration, China's Permanent Representative to the UN Office at Geneva and related experts.
