On July 11, Cao Xuetao, vice-minister of China's National Health Commission (NHC), met with Assistant Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Jérôme Salomon in Beijing. They exchanged views on bilateral cooperation.

Cao said that China and the WHO have long maintained sound technical cooperation, and the practical cooperation in the prevention and control of infectious diseases and chronic non-communicable diseases in particular has achieved outcomes of milestone significance. In recent years, China has actively promoted the Healthy China Initiative and gained positive results in the prevention and control of chronic diseases and the promotion of mental health, he added.

China will continue to firmly support the WHO in playing the core leadership role in global health affairs, he said, noting that the country is ready to further enhance all-round collaboration in technology and personnel training with the WHO, give play to the part of Chinese experts, and share China's experience and practices, so as to make contributions to advancing universal health coverage and promote the building of a global community of health for all.

Salomon spoke highly of China's achievements in health undertakings and the country's great contribution to global health. He said the WHO is willing to further support the building of a Healthy China, deepen technical cooperation with China in various fields of health, and leverage the role of the WHO collaborating centers in China to push forward the development of global health.

Officials of related NHC departments were present at the meeting.
