NHC vice-minister meets with WHO regional director for Africa
On Nov 12, Zheng Zhe, vice-minister of China's National Health Commission, met in Beijing with Mohamed Yakub Janabi, World Health Organization (WHO) regional director for Africa.
Zheng briefed Janabi on China's achievements and experiences in advancing public health. He commended the long-standing and fruitful cooperation between China and the WHO, emphasizing China's commitment to cooperation with African countries, including the implementation of the Partnership Action for Health proposed at the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. China is ready to enhance communication with the WHO Regional Office for Africa and collaborate on relevant health initiatives, he added.
Zheng also provided an overview of the guiding principles of the fourth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, highlighting the Chinese government's commitment to prioritizing the health of its people and promoting high-level opening-up, with a desire to share development opportunities with all nations.
The two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on cooperation in areas such as health emergency response, medical technology innovation and traditional medicine.
Janabi praised China's achievements in the development of public health and its contributions to global health. He expressed gratitude for China's support for the WHO and public health in Africa, and outlined the current priorities of the WHO Regional Office for Africa.
He also expressed his hope to strengthen strategic alignment with China, deepen technical cooperation and personnel exchanges, and jointly promote the health and well-being of all humanity.
