The China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment’s board of trustees held its first plenary meeting in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province, on June 25. Chen Xiaohong, vice-minister of NHFPC and head of the board of trustees, and Liu Peizhi, deputy head of the board, attended the meeting and gave speeches.

The meeting reviewed and approved a working summary of the center in the first half of 2014 and a working plan for the second half, as well as a draft plan for the 2015 budget. Participating trustees discussed the application of scientific outcome, introduction of high level talent, sites for new projects, working network construction and budget filing.

Chen Xiaohong summarized and analyzed the technology support work of the center, and said that the center should follow the real demand in China, follow international trends and continue to promote its technology support services.

 It should focus on think tank construction, science and technology research, talent training, decision-making consultation and information exchanges, to build the center as a national food safety science and technology resources center with credibility and international influence, Chen said.

Liu Peizhi said that since the center was established two years ago, its work has gradually improved, with an expanding network and improved infrastructure. The ability to support government’s risk management is also promoted.

The trustees should further play a role in supervision for the decision-making process with a sense of responsibility, to raise the center to a higher stage, Liu said.

During the meeting, a signing ceremony was also held between the center and Yangtze Delta Region Institute of Tsinghua University, Zhejiang, which agreed to build an applied technology cooperation center together.
