On July 22, the NHFPC held a meeting with 11 college students in Beijing who will have their summer internship in the commission. The students hail from five leading universities in Beijing: Peking University, Tsinghua University, University of Science and Technology Beijing, Central University of Finance and Economics, and China Youth University of Political Studies. Eight internship tutors from the departments of the NHFPC also attended the meeting.

According to an internship program initiated by the Communist Youth League of China, the NHFPC was among the first series of government departments to receive summer interns. The NHFPC has assigned tutors for each of the 11 students for their one-month internship in the NHFPC.

Lu Wenyuan, deputy Party chief for the NHFPC departments CPC branch, attended the meeting and gave a speech. She suggested that the interns should learn the importance of this internship program and hoped that the students and tutors could make full play of the NHFPC’s tradition. They should help and learn from each other to reach a win-win result. Students should feel the culture of the government departments from the exchanges and learn about the working conditions of public servants. They should share their experiences and thoughts afterwards, Lu said.

Lu pointed out that the students should adhere to high standards during the internship. They should keep in mind the political discipline and focus on the details of their practice to raise confidential awareness and successfully finish the assignments during the internship.

During the meeting, Zhou Changqiang, head of the NHFPC’s department of personnel, introduced the functions and the department establishments about the commission. He explained the three functions of the NHFP: public service, medical care and family planning.

Zhang Yibo, representative of the interns, said that the students really cherish this chance. They hoped to have a close look at the mechanism of the government departments, enrich their experiences and finish their tasks. Guo Hongtao, an official from the department of community family planning, was one of the tutors for the interns. He shared his experiences of his job and suggested that the interns should learn the methods to deal with documents, conferences and events. The meeting with interns was presided over by Wang Kai, an official from the NHFPC departments CPC branch.

These college students internship program is aimed to guide students to enter central government departments, experience the daily practice of departments and learn the country’s administration system. From real working practice, students could adhere to their dreams, learn about the country and improve their ability. Meanwhile, it will promote the transparency of central government departments among college students as well as the public by establishing a exchange platform for public servants and students.
