From July 31 to Aug 1, the NHFPC held a seminar in Nanning, capital of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, for officials working in the family planning contraceptives service sector. Wang Guoqiang, vice-minister of the NHFPC and head of the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, took part in the conference and made a speech.

In his speech, Wang introduced the progress of the country’s family planning work and praised the job of the NHPFC’s contraceptives management center, which has strengthened the public service of providing contraceptives.

With a theme of ability strengthening, Wang stressed five key points. First, officials in the sector should combine their work with the opportunities of improved family planning policy, urbanization and healthcare reform. They should enhance research on reform of contraceptives service and make adjustments.

Second, comprehensive service ability should be improved. Workers in the contraceptives service sector should enhance cooperation with children-women healthcare institutions, which could cover more groups with the services. As 2014 is the Year of Children-Women Healthcare, contraceptives service should be an important part of the campaign, and publicity work should be strengthened.

Third, the target of contraceptives services should be expanded. Based on the free service of contraceptives, the expanded service should be a breakthrough in the future.

Fourth, the administration accountability system should be improved. A professional personnel team of this sector should be established with improved staff member ability.

Fifth, the awareness of disciplinary action should be enhanced, and an anti-corruption campaign will be carried out. Position risk control will be enhanced to make sure contraceptive service work is done according to regulations.

A total of 216 participants, from contraceptives management centers across the country, attended the seminar.
