China’s Maternal-Children Health Tour campaign in Guangxi

Wang Guoqiang stressed in his speech that the campaign is an important measure to deepen healthcare reform, which is also an important part of the Maternal and Children Health Service Year. Health and family planning departments at all levels should promote this activity in communities and remote regions by giving lectures on maternal and children health, and holding free medical examinations. Baby-friendly hospitals should improve its services and increase the breastfeeding rate.

Wang praised Guangxi’s maternal and children health service. The Guangxi CPC Committee and Guangxi government have made great efforts on healthcare reform, including the prevention project for Mediterranean anemia, free pre-marital medical check-ups and family planning services. Guangxi has explored a working pattern suitable for the western region that can effectively decrease the maternal mortality rate and infant mortality rate in remote and impoverished regions. In 2012, Hechi city of Guangxi province represented West China and was affirmed by the WHO in the elimination of Infantum tetanus, which makes China the 161st country to do so.
