Li Bin, minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, came to the city of Ganzhou, Yudu county and Huichang county in Jiangxi province to inspect health services development and partner-assistance progress on September 14.

Li examined public hospital reforms in southern Jiangxi's county hospitals and inspected health and family planning services in maternal and child health care centers. She checked the operation of a remote medical consultation system connected with the People's Hospital of Peking University. Li also gave instructions to the building of a health industry park in Yudu, visited rural residents, and discussed implementation of health and family planning policies.

Since 2012, the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC) has allocated 4.48 billion yuan ($729.67 million) to Ganzhou in order to support the implementation of a new rural cooperative medical system and improve primary public health services in the city. The fund increased by 40 percent in 2013. The NHFPC has launched 789 projects in Ganzhou to improve its health care and family planning services. Six pilot programs, such as the thalassemia control and prevention project and the children nutrition improvement program, are running in Ganzhou. In addition, the NHFPC has organized a special medical professionals training program for Yudu county and has set up a poverty-alleviation fund to support the project.

The NHFPC sends its cadres to work in Yudu county and provides positions for leaders from Yudu. It provides 173 core medical specialists in Yudu with further training opportunities in Xiangya Hospital and People's Hospital of Peking University. Favorable policies are also given to Yudu to train general practitioners and resident doctors. Peking University Third Hospital is assigned to support Ganzhou People's Hospital, and another key hospital in Beijing, People's Hospital of Peking University, has established a medical service partnership with Ganzhou and has been assigned to support Yudu County People's Hospital to conduct distant medical diagnosis, allowing local residents access to quality medical service.
