Beijing holds campaign to prevent birth defects
The CDPF would continue to cooperate with relevant departments, Jia said, and it would enhance support for the recovery of babies with birth defects and push for a social welfare system that covers all disabled children.
You Hong, council member of the CDPF and director of the rehabilitation department, gave a brief introduction about the campaign. Heads of the BMCHFP, BDPF and Shunyi district jointly announced the start of the campaign. Gynecologists and pediatricians from major hospitals in Beijing introduced knowledge about healthy births, and a young couple gave a speech to call on would-be parents to increase knowledge about healthy pregnancy.
In addition, medical specialists from Beijing hospitals and Shunyi hospitals provided free clinical services of birth defects prevention for citizens in the campaign.
More than 200 people, including members from the national and local health and family planning commissions, disabled person's federations, maternal and child health care hospitals, community health service centers, medical specialists and young couples, joined the campaign.
