Vice-Minister Cui Li attends fourth US-China Health Summit

Cui Li, vice-minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission (NHFPC), attended the opening ceremony of the fourth US-China Health Summit and delivered a speech in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, on October 17.

Cui Li said that since 2009, China’s healthcare reform has made great achievements in establishing a basic medical insurance system that covers all citizens; a national essential drag system; a new operation mechanism for medical institutions in the community level; a service system for primary care; a management system of public hospitals; and an equalization of basic public health service. China, will push forward public hospital reform; improve the grading diagnosis model; step up social medical care; and strengthen healthcare reform in the medical industry. She also said that China will strengthen exchange and cooperation in the health sector with the US and other countries across the world.

The US-China Health Summit has been held in China and the US in turn since 2011. As one of the fruits of the sixth round of China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue, the two-day summit was themed “reform and reconstruct the healthcare system, innovate and develop the healthcare industry.” It hosted discussions in the payment for deepening medical and healthcare reform, food safety, the prevention and treatment for chronic diseases, invalidism and population aging, hospital development and innovation as well as health informationization. More than 200 representatives from China-US governments, medical institutions, academic circles and business circles attended the meeting.
