During his stay in Switzerland, Sun visited the Swiss Ministry of the Interior and had a meeting with Pascal Strupler, vice-minister of the Swiss Ministry of the Interior and director-general of the public health bureau. He attended a seminar on Sino-Swiss healthcare reform and listened to an introduction to the Swiss healthcare system, medical insurance system, medicine policy, personnel training and management presented by experts of the public health bureau. Sun visited the state government of Basel and talked with Guy Morin about medical and healthcare management. He also visited the affiliated hospital of the medical college of Basel State University, exchanging ideas with the heads of the hospital and the college on medical education and hospital management.

On his visit to the three countries, Sun introduced the situation of Chinese healthcare reform. He stressed that China’s healthcare reform has stepped into a crucial stage, which needs to draw on experiences of global countries in order to explore a way suitable for China’s reform. Austria, Greece and Switzerland have experiences in the medical and health system that provide lessons for China’s healthcare reform. Greece, which reformed its medical and health system for the sake of escaping its debt crisis, especially offers many measures for China to learn from. Sun said that China is willing to deepen cooperation in the health sector with the three countries, especially in public hospital management and medical insurance sectors.

Sun’s visit was accompanied by people in charge of the departments of healthcare reform, drug administration and international cooperation.
