Chen Xiaohong pushes forward health and family planning assistance work in Xinjiang

Chen Xiaohong, vice-minister of the NHFPC, led officials from the Department of Finance, Bureau of Medical Administration, Department of Primary Health, Department of Maternal and Child Health, and Bureau of Inspection and Supervision to Urumqi on Nov 4 to study local health and family planning work. The visit was part of an effort to carry out the spirit of the national meeting on health and family planning assistance to Xinjiang and strengthen related work. The study group went into the autonomous region's health supervision center, maternal and child care service institute, community in the backstreet of the management committee of Heijiashanpian area of Urumqi's Tianshan district, community service center at Xingfu Road, and hospital of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps to understand the development of assistance work for Xinjiang and local health and family planning work. The group also offered guidance in boosting related work.

Chen asked relevant parties to earnestly carry out the spirit of the second national symposium on work for Xinjiang and the national ethnic work meeting, implement all requirements of the national meeting on health and family planning assistance to Xinjiang, raise awareness, and make overall planning and coordination to get more funds for Xinjiang. Chen called to establish a long-term stable medical assistance relationship; help Xinjiang strengthen self-development abilities; solve problems in health and family planning service, such as an unsound system, talent shortage and incapacity; increase support for health and family planning system construction; continue to upgrade relevant service management; boost basic public service equalization by degrees; raise Xinjiang's health and family planning service ability and level; boost scientific development of local health and family planning work; and ensure local people's health.

Erkin Tuniyaz, vice-chairman of Xinjiang; Song Jianye, member of the standing committee of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps; and officials from local health and family planning departments were present during the study.
