A large-scale public welfare activity to find the most beautiful doctor officially kicked off in Beijing on Dec 5, 2014. The activity was hosted by CCTV. Hu Zhanfan, head of CCTV, and Cui Li, vice-minister of the NHFPC, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. Huang Jiefu, deputy director of the CPPCC Committee of Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports; Zhang Haige, deputy head of CCTV; and Li Ting, deputy editor-in-chief, were present at the ceremony.

Cui expressed gratitude to CCTV on behalf of the NHFPC, paid tribute to rural doctors, and pointed out that the success of the activity greatly increased government and government attention to rural doctors. Cui said that finding and publicizing model workers in national health and family planning work has always been a focus of the NHFPC and health and family planning departments at various levels. The NHFPC held tours publicizing model health and family planning workers in 20 provinces in 2014, and more than 10,000 people joined those tours. A group of workers were named model of the times by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, such as Xu Kecheng and Jia Liqun. A good atmosphere has been created for workers to stand firm in their posts and learn from model workers.

Cui stressed that mass media, especially CCTV, has played an important role in publicizing health and family planning model workers and has made important contributions to boosting social understanding of the health industry, as well as social respect and support of medical workers. The NHFPC will give full support to the Find the Most Beautiful Doctor activity and will take it as an opportunity to strengthen model worker publicity and work ethic education. It will call on all health and family planning workers to learn from the model doctor, carry forward noble medical ethics, practice socialist core values and be qualified public health guardians.

CCTV held activities to find the most beautiful rural doctors in 2012 and 2013, and broadened the scope of the event this year to focus on the whole range of doctors. The event will base its evaluation on candidate's medical ethics, medical skill and contributions to increasing positive social energy. Candidacy can be acquired through media, social or personal recommendation. The activity will also seek the best smile and moment.

The activity will showcase doctor's work performance on CCTV News, Live News Room and other major news channels. Real-time information of the activity will be released to CCTV's client terminal, news blog and WeChat account. China Network; the news channels of Sina, Tencent and Netease; and Health News were invited to be partners to help promote the activity. A total of 30 candidates will meet the public at the official website of the activity in mid-January 2015. The judging panel will vote for the 10 most beautiful doctors, 10 doctors under special attention and single most beautiful mobile medical team. The awards ceremony of the activity will be broadcast on CCTV at the end of March 2015.
