Ma Xiaowei meets with Tanzanian health minister

Ma Xiaowei, minister of the National Health Commission, met with Ummy Ally Mwalimu, Tanzanian Minister for Health, in Beijing on Aug 15, and discussed deepening bilateral health cooperation.

Ma gave a high appraisal of China-Tanzanian friendship and the two countries’ cooperation in the health sector. He said that China is willing to continue sending medical teams to Tanzania, and to have further cooperation and experience exchanges in the treatment of angiocardiopathy, cancer and public health, as well as in training of specialist physicians and localization of pharmaceutical products.

Mwalimu expressed thanks for China’s support in the health sector. She spoke highly of Chinese medical teams’ great contributions to the Tanzanian people in the past 50 years. She hoped that the two countries will work together to move bilateral health cooperation to a higher level.

After the meeting, Ma and Mwalimu signed an MOU on bilateral health cooperation. They also witnessed the signing of cooperative agreements between the Cancer Hospital Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences of China and the Ocean Road Cancer Institute of Tanzania, and between Fuwai Hospital, Shandong Provincial Hospital of China and Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute of Tanzania.
