Minister of China’s top health authority meets with WHO regional director

Ma Xiaowei, minister of China's National Health Commission (NHC), met with Takeshi Kasai, WHO regional director for the Western Pacific, on Feb 14 in Beijing.

Ma welcomed the newly appointed WHO regional director who was making his first tour to China after taking the position.

Ma introduced China's medical reform and achievements of the Healthy China promotion. He said WHO leads in global health affairs and boasts great cooperative fruits with China. China will continue supporting the WHO regional office and strengthening cooperation on national health coverage, medical reforms, health emergencies, prevention and control of infectious and chronic diseases and global health. The two sides will contribute to the health of the Western Pacific region and build a community with a shared future for mankind.

Takeshi Kasai praised China's health achievements. He said WHO adheres to the one-China policy and is willing to continue deepening both sides' cooperation and to actively support China's health development and its engagement in global health affairs. During his tour in China Takeshi Kasai visited the Xinjiekou community health service center in Beijing and will also visit the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
