NHC vice-minister meets with UNFPA representative in China
Yu Xuejun, vice-minister of the National Health Commission (NHC) met with Babatunde Ahonsi, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) representative in China, and his delegation in Beijing on Mar 21, 2019.
Yu appraised the practical cooperation between NHC and UNFPA and congratulated UNFPA on its 50th anniversary and the 25th anniversary of the opening of the International Conference on Population and Development.
He said that China pays attention to population development and hopes to continue exchanges on population policies and cooperation on talents cultivation and other programs with UNFPA to commonly combat the emerging problems of population development.
Ahonsi expressed his gratitude to NHC for its support of the UNFPA’s programs conducted in China. He spoke highly of China’s taking population data into consideration when setting policies or making decisions to develop its national economy and society. Ahonsi said the fund is willing to keep providing advice for improving Chinese population policies and hopes to be engaged in South-South cooperation to enhance exchanges and learning among other developing countries.
