The National Health Commission (NHC) held a World Health Day event at the West China Hospital of Sichuan University on April 3.

Wang Jianjun, executive deputy director of the National Office for the Elderly and president of the China Association for the Elderly, Wang Zhengrong, vice-chairman of the Sichuan Committee of the CPPCC, and Dr Gauden Galea, the WHO representative in China, attended the event and delivered keynote speeches.

Wang Jianjun pointed out that since the founding of the People's Republic of China, "everything for the health of the people" has been the goal of the Party and the government. Since the 18th National Congress of the CPC, especially since the National Health and Wellness Conference, China has placed people's health in a strategic position of priority development, and promoted "everyone enjoys good health and everything for health" together with WHO. China is willing to strengthen cooperation with WHO and other countries to make new and greater contributions to the health and well-being of all mankind.

The WHO has defined the theme of World Health Day 2019 as "Universal health coverage", and the NHC has defined the theme in China as "Safeguarding Health for All, Building a Moderately Prosperous Society in All Respects".

The event invited six groups of guests to share their stories about universal health coverage, reflecting China's progress in medical levels, medical quality control, and research and development of new anti-cancer drugs.
