At a press briefing held at 15:00 on 2 March by the State Council inter-agency task force on the COVID-19 outbreak, Mi Feng, an NHC spokesperson and Deputy Director-General for Communications, said that six confirmed cases, 61 suspected cases and zero fatal case were newly reported outside Hubei and the number of severe cases was down by 20. The numbers of new confirmed and suspected cases reported across the country have been declining on the whole over the past two weeks. The number of new cured and discharged cases has kept growing despite some fluctuations, hovering around 3,000 in recent days. These figures suggest that the steep upward trend of the outbreak in Wuhan is now under control; pockets of severe outbreak have been contained in other places of Hubei; and the situation in other provinces is turning for the better. Going forward, coordinated efforts must be made to fight the outbreak and ensure economic and social development. While focusing on the two priorities of community-level prevention and medical treatment, a shift must be made from comprehensive to targeted prevention and control featuring combined efforts of the public and the professionals.
