At a press briefing on COVID-19 prevention and control in Beijing held on 20 March, Li Hui, Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Foreign Affairs Office, noted that districts and universities in the city have organized over 100 volunteers and coordinated with a multilingual service center to provide language services to support the efficient and smooth closed-loop transfer of foreign nationals arriving in Beijing.

According to Li, a special zone has recently been designated in T3-D, and a transition area set up in the new compound of the China International Exhibition Center (CIEC) for international arrivals in Beijing, all aiming to improve the closed-loop transfer and management, and minimize the risk of imported cases.

Language services have been improved to facilitate the closed-loop transfer of foreign nationals. More than 100 volunteers proficient in English, Japanese, Korean, Italian, French, German, Russian or other languages have been organized by districts and universities in Beijing, ready to provide language services. A multilingual center will be providing distant translation service to the Capital Airport hot-line. Language translator devices, online translation software and other intelligent services will be deployed at the CIEC transition area to help foreign nationals during their arrival registration and onward travel. In the meantime, efforts are made to better communicate with and guide foreign nationals, reduce their possible anxiety after a long journey, and ensure the efficient and smooth operation of the transition area.
