At a press conference on COVID-19 prevention and control in Beijing held today, Deputy Director of Beijing Customs Gao Ruifeng noted that inbound travelers need to go through at least two body temperature screening. Travelers who are of concern will have temperature taken again by mercury thermometers, in addition to infrared thermometers and thermometer guns. Strict epidemiological investigation and screening will be conducted. Outbound and inbound travelers will be asked to provide detailed information such as their basic information, symptoms of infectious diseases, travel/residence history and contact/exposure history. For individuals showing symptoms, their respiratory specimens including nasopharyngeal swabs will be collected and sent to labs for the nucleic acid testing for COVID-19. All confirmed cases, suspected cases, close contacts and individuals showing fever or respiratory symptoms entering China will be transferred to designated hospitals or to sub-national inter-agency task force for medical observation and the transfer will be clearly recorded.
