KIEV-- Chinese experts and officials on March 24 shared their experiences on fighting the novel coronavirus with their Ukrainian counterparts in a video conference.

During the call, Chinese experts briefed their Ukrainian colleagues on effective prevention and control measures against COVID-19 and methods of treatment, and answered questions from the Ukrainian side.

Noting that "coronavirus has become the number-one global challenge," Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal said during the event that "joining the efforts to fight this pandemic is the most important part of the victory over it.

He also thanked the Chinese side for the prompt assistance provided to Ukraine in countering the COVID-19 outbreak, and expressed his hope for further cooperation in the area.

"It is the first (meeting in this format) but certainly not the last one," he said, adding that "we will be able to develop such cooperation for the experience exchange."

Iryna Mykychak, Ukraine's first deputy minister of health, noted that the teleconference provided many benefits to the Ukrainian medical community.

"We received clear recommendations based on the experience of our Chinese colleagues. Recommendations on providing assistance to patients and experience in protecting physicians are very important to us," she said.

Expressing the hope that such teleconferences will continue, she said that Ukraine will be able to "get out of the epidemic with minimal losses."

Sergei Dubrov, president of the Association of Anesthesiologists of Ukraine, also highlighted the importance of studying China's experience, which he said would help Ukrainian doctors to effectively treat patients with the novel coronavirus.

"What happened today is very important for Ukrainian doctors, for our specialists as a whole, said Dubrov. "China has experience in how to choose a specific method of treating COVID-19 patients."

As of Tuesday, 97 cases of COVID-19 infection have been confirmed in Ukraine, with three deaths.
