At the press briefing held by the State Council inter-agency task force on COVID-19 outbreak on April 7, NHC spokesperson Mi Feng said that between 0:00 and 24:00, 6 April, 32 confirmed cases and 30 asymptomatic cases were newly reported by the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. There were no confirmed, suspected or fatal local cases added that day and the number of local severe cases dropped below 200 for the first time.

China has reported sporadic infections for days. Meanwhile, the outbreak is still escalating rapidly in Europe and the US. The number of existing imported cases has surpassed that of locally transmitted cases, putting pressure on medical treatment, containment and screening, nucleic acid tests and quarantine facilities in cities that serve as points of entry. China still faces the twin risks of sporadic infections and localized outbreaks caused by locally transmitted and imported cases. Control and treatment of the virus remains a daunting task at home.
