NHC minister calls for stronger int’l cooperation against COVID-19
Ma Xiaowei, minister of China's National Health Commission (NHC), attended the Group of 20 (G20) health ministers’ videoconference hosted by the Health Ministry of Saudi Arabia on April 19. Yu Xuejun, vice-minister of the NHC, also participated in the conference.
Ma said that under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee, the spread of indigenous epidemic has been basically blocked over the last three months and normal life and production have been rapidly resuming.
Ma introduced China's major experiences in the prevention and control of the pandemic and the progress in international cooperation, stressing China’s willingness to actively implement the consensus reached at the Extraordinary G20 Leaders' Summit on COVID-19. He also called on all parties to continue their support for the World Health Organization (WHO) playing leading and coordinating roles, and to actively carry out international cooperation on joint prevention and control to help countries with vulnerable health systems improve their coping capacities.
Health ministers and heads of international organizations including the WHO made statements calling on the international community to work together to overcome the pandemic as soon as possible.
The conference gathered around 40 attendees, including health ministers from G20 members and other guest countries and heads of international organizations like the WHO.
Representatives from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also present.
