BRICS countries vow joint efforts in virus fight
A videoconference of senior health officials from BRICS countries, hosted by the Russian Ministry of Health, was held on May 7.
Participants included officials and experts of China's National Health Commission, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention as well as their counterparts from BRICS countries including Russia, Brazil, India and South Africa.
At the conference, Chinese experts comprehensively introduced China's latest progress in fighting COVID-19 and shared experiences in health emergency response mechanisms, epidemic prevention and control, and patient treatment.
Representatives of BRICS countries exchanged in-depth information on emergency response mechanisms, health systems, epidemic information reporting, promotion of access to medicines, diagnostic reagents and medical devices, and international cooperation in vaccine research and development.
Attendees reiterated support for the leading and coordinating role of the World Health Organization in global health emergency response and expressed willingness to strengthen information exchanges and technological cooperation for global health security.
